Keep the count.

Sequence 1 / 3

Start at 0. Add each visible card’s Hi-Lo value.

One card at a time. No timer.

How to practice card counting.

The Hi-Lo system gives every rank a value. Cards 2 through 6 are +1, cards 7 through 9 are 0, and tens, face cards, and aces are −1. Start at zero and update your running count after each exposed card.

For example, 5, K, 8, 3, A gives +1, 0, 0, +1, 0: a final running count of zero. Practice short sequences until you can finish accurately without going back.

  1. Learn the three groups until you recognize each value immediately.
  2. Use the trainer above to count ten cards at a comfortable pace.
  3. Review errors before increasing speed or adding distractions.
  4. Move to longer sequences and true-count conversion once your running count is reliable.

Running count and true count.

The running count is the sum of the card values you have seen. In a game with multiple decks, the true count adjusts that total for the number of decks remaining: running count ÷ decks remaining.

A running count of +6 with three decks left gives a true count of +2. This sample tests the running count only; the full app includes true-count practice.

Learn strategy alongside the count.

Counting and choosing a play are separate skills. Work on blackjack basic strategy so you can make ordinary decisions before adding a running count. Compare prices and features in our card counting practice platform comparison when choosing a tool for regular sessions.

Common questions.

Can I practice card counting for free?

Yes. This three-sequence sample works without an account or payment details. You can restart it with fresh cards. The full CardCount app has a daily free practice allowance and an optional paid plan.

Do I need to memorize every card?

No. In Hi-Lo, you keep one running total using the three card-value groups. This drill covers the cards before asking for that total.

Does card counting guarantee a profit?

No. This is an educational trainer. Real games involve variance, rules, costs, and risks that a short practice drill cannot reproduce.
